WELCOME to the
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (P.G.D.) Web
Site of Fecunditas Reproductive Medicine
Institute.
Fecunditas was the first P.G.D. program in
Argentina to succesfully perform
preimplantation genetics on embryos and have
live born healthy babies .
P.G.D. can be used to detect specific
genetic diseases, which compromise the quality
of life, analysing the pre-embryos prior to
the establishment of pregnancy.
The couple at risk of having affected children
with a genetic disease undergoes an in vitro
fertilization/intra-cytoplasmic sperm
injection (IVF-ICSI) procedure with the
purpose of obtaining several pre-embryos. When
the pre-embryos reach the 8 cell stage on the
3rd day post ovum retrieval, one or two cells
are removed. These cells are then studied to
determine which pre-embryos are affected with
the disease and which are not affected. After
reaching the blastocyst stage on the 5th day,
up to 2 viable unaffected embryos are
transferred to the uterus in order to
establish the pregnancy. The exceeding normal
blastocysts that weren’t transferred may be
cryopreserved.
We can offer P.G.D. testing for almost every
genetically characterized disease. Aneuploidy
screening and CGH array is also performed in
couples with high risk for chromosomal
anomalies.
These state-of-the-art technologies are
offered to you in a caring and professional
environment. A multidisciplinary team is
available 24/7 to assist you through the
procedure.
As Director of the PGD program, I invite you
to browse our web site and we hope to help you
with the service we offer.
